A Night On The Town
I am informed that Lao has a particularly high concentration of Lady-Boys. I visit Vientiane, the Lao Capital fairly regularly but I have not been there for a couple of Years now. It is an interesting Town set on the Banks of the Mekong River, small enough to explore on foot, among its attractions are some fine French Colonial Architecture and several beautiful Buddhist Temples, the atmosphere is much more laid back here than the frantic scramble of the Thai Towns I am used to.
One Highlight not to be missed is the “Morning Market” this large, Grubby Old Building houses the most impressive collection of FAKE merchandise I have ever seen. Small stalls are fairly bursting at the seams with ,Prada, Chanel and the like, they even have a copy of my Armani watch which was not one of the expensive ones in the first place!! I am always impressed by the Quality of these Copies and invariably buy intuon a Jimmy Choo Handbag or the likes, although the Armani watch I had purchased for Her on a earlier trip did tend to keep stopping!!
During my visits I usually stay in a comfortable Hotel about a 25 minute walk from the Town Centre ,where prior to a Night on the Town One can enjoy an Ice Cold Bier Lao in the shade of an Old tree in a delightful Garden.
The walk from the Hotel into the Centre of Town takes One along a Tree lined Boulevard passing some of the Most Beautiful Temples in Vientiane.
On the Evening in question which happened to be a Friday I noticed that there were a number of Girls spread out along the Pavement. After receiving a friendly greeting from a few of them I began to notice that they all seemed to have rather deep voices!! Sherlock Holmes I am not, but I had deduced that these Friendly Females were all in fact Lady-Boys I figured Friday Night most Guys would have some money in their Pockets some of them may be tempted to finish off their Night on the Town in the Company of a She-Male!! and that is why the Lady-Boys were out in numbers .For the Lady-Boys the prospect of bagging a Falang would give them a bigger Payday, as I proceeded I was emboldened to exchange a bit of Banter with the loitering Ladies as I passed by, I indeed appeared to be Mr Popular!!
The Centre of Vientiane has a much more Cosmopolitan feel to it than the Thai Town in which I live, this is because of its French connection. It is in fact the perfect place for A Night on the Town there are a number of Chic Cafe’s and a few really very pleasant small Bistro type Restaurants to choose from, The crowd is also much more attractive, younger and all together more vibrant than the tired Jaded Old want to be Romeos to be found in Issan’s Towns, I of course number myself among them!! The Falang in Lao are predominantly Couples which seems to give everything a much more normal feel!! I think the word that sums up what is on offer here is Ambiance, Thailand sadly does not do Ambiance!!
Having enjoyed a splendid Dinner and a very palatable bottle of Red I set out on the journey homeward, stopping En Route to finish off my Night on the Town with a small glass of Cognac, Continuing my journey content in the warm fuzzy glow which overtakes those who perhaps have imbibed a trifle too lavishly!!
My progress was impeded by a pretty young Girl attempting to pick me up!! You’re a Lady-Boy” I declaimed triumphantly!!” No I am a Girl I will show you!!””no thank you very much I just ate Pizza!!” was the only reply I could come up with. Nothing further passed between us and I continued walking leaving the Girl standing on the pavement, a rather puzzled look on her face! I do remember hoping that she had some better luck with Her next prospect!!
